The aim of the research programme is to investigate the potential of flotation for the separation of arsenopyrite and pyrite minerals. The efficient separation of pyrite and arsenopyrite by a cheap process such as flotation has long been recognized as a desirable technological goal for ores containing both minerals.
It is common for instance for gold in an ore containing both pyrite and arsenopyrite to be associated almost exclusively with the arsenopyrite. It is desirable in this instance to produce an arsenopyrite concentrate for gold recovery while rejecting the barren pyrite.
Flotation tests and the calculation of structure performance indicate that the combination of ammonium butyl xanthate and ammonium dibutyl dithiophosphate is an effective collector for gold-bearing sulfide ore (pyrite and arsenopyrite).
